16. What items do I need to change in my template?
There are several items you'll need to change in your template page(s) in order to maximize your website's effectiveness:
- Change the description and keyword meta tags to fit your site. These meta tags are located in the head of each template page, and will need to be altered in a text or HTML editor. It is recommended that you research the keywords and descriptions used for each page to accurately reflect the category niche and page content. In our templates, the keyword and description meta tags look like this:
meta name="description" content="YOUR WEBSITE DESCRIPTION GOES HERE"
meta name="keywords" content="YOUR WEBSITE KEYWORDS GO HERE"
- Change the Page Title tag to fit your site. The page title is located in the head of each template page, and will need to be altered in a text or HTML editor.
- Change the Copyright tag to fit your site. The copyright tag is located in the head of each template page, and will need to be altered in a text or HTML editor. In our templates, the copyright tag looks like this:
meta name="Copyright" content="YourSite.com"
- Change the bookmark script information to match your site, if included in your template. The bookmark script is encoded as a hyperlink in the HTML code. To find this code, locate the Bookmark image or text within the HTML and alter the code details to your site's details.
- Do not change the Author tag located in the head of each template page. Changing this tag is a violation of your user license.
- Replace all placeholder banners, text, and images.
- Replace the copyright information located in the footer of the template with your information. You must change this information to match your site, per the user license.
- Change folder and file names as necessary. Remember to update the HTML, if you do so.

17. How can I use an image already uploaded to my server?
If the image file is already resident on your server, you need only type the file name of the image you wish to use over the existing file name present in the template. For example, if you want to replace an image called "image.jpg" with an image called "newpic.jpg" you need only replace the name of the image file within the code, if the new image is located in the same folder as the existing image. if the new image is located in another folder on the server, include the folder information as long with the file name.

18. What is a robots.txt file, and why do I need one?
Creating a robots.txt file will not necessarily improve your search engine rankings, but it does provide search engine spiders and robots with information concerning the files you do not want to be crawled and indexed in the search engines. Typically, a robots.txt file is located in the root directory of your server space.
Here are a few robots.txt examples:

24. My TGPX template is displaying thumbnails and text links on the page, but it is not linking correctly.
Our TGPX templates are coded to use the click.php script included with TGPX. The click.php script tracks click-through information about galleries displayed, and is a useful tool for fully developing your website. Thus, we code our TGPX templates to use the script by default.
To setup the click.php script, simply open it in a text editor such as Notepad or Edit Plus. At line 7 look for this code:
$USERNAME = 'username'; // The username to access your MySQL database
$PASSWORD = 'password'; // The password to access your MySQL database
$DATABASE = 'database'; // The name of your MySQL database
$HOSTNAME = 'localhost'; // The hostname of your MySQL database server
Place the information asked for in each section between the single quotation marks. If you do not have this information, you'll probably need to contact whoever set up your MySQL database for this information.
Once you have altered the script, save it, and then upload it to the same directory where your TGP pages are located. If you do not upload the script to the directory where the TGP pages are located, the script will not work properly.
If you receive a MySQL error when clicking upon a thumbnail or text link, the click.php is located in the proper directory already. So simply download that script to your computer, alter it, and upload it back to the server. If you follow all of these steps, the click.php script should work properly and generate viable links. |
